The summer break has been good for some of us, but even winning another NBA title in dominant fashion cannot satisfy the Mouth That Roars Constantly (a.k.a., Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green).
Just Google his name to find all the asinine things he does and says publicly, from posting a pic of his junk on Snapchat to picking fights with no-talent losers from faux sports. Why hasn’t someone in the Golden State organization taken away this guy’s cell phone yet?
Green has become one of the best players in the league over the past few seasons, after being a second-round draft pick out of Michigan State—where he certainly didn’t learn his present behavior. Spartans program leader Tom Izzo doesn’t tolerate crap from his players, so Green has picked up some bad habits in the pros.
He has won two NBA titles in three seasons with the Warriors, and Green also won the league’s Defensive Player of the Year Award in 2016-17. Why does he feel the need to run his mouth off all the time? Forget the banter with LeBron, as that can be “excused” as typical NBA trash talking.
It’s the other stuff where Green needs to learn to keep his mouth shut, before he says too many things he regrets—and pays the price for it. That may not happen until Green jeopardizes the team again, like he did in the 2016 NBA Finals.
Is he so good that the team won’t intervene? Possibly, and that in itself is another reason why the NBA is so unwatchable these days. But that’s a whole different can of worms to explore some other time …
